Mid-July gave me the delight of capturing another St. Paul Alberta wedding. I loved photographing Kennedi & Tyler’s wedding at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Cultural Centre, also affectionally named The Garlic Dome. Tyler and Kennedi started dating when they were in Grade 11, shortly after Kennedy’s 17th birthday. Seven years later, Kennedy reflects, “One could say we are high school sweethearts. Tyler and I have been through a lot since we met. We’ve experienced many ups and downs together, but we always seem to come out smiling. Tyler makes me laugh every single day. Our little family is very important to us, and it is only growing.”
Tyler and Kennedi shared the vision of their day being fun and relaxed. Kennedi wrote to me in the planning stages, “It will be what it will be, so I don’t want to obsess about the little things.” The theme was natural, with live plants, wood, and rustic décor for centrepieces and decorations. Kennedi and her Aunty actually created most of the decor together. When reflecting on their wedding day, Kennedi and Tyler said, “There were so many great moments on our wedding day, but the memories and stories from the evening, we will never forget. There were so many laughs, giggles, and tears!”
As I got to know Tyler and Kennedi, I learned that they have a daughter, Abigail, and that they often turn date nights into family time with her, watching Disney movies on the weekend. “If we do sneak away, just the two of us,” Kennedy smiled, “it is usual to enjoy a rock or metal concert.” The couple had their first dance to the song “I’ll follow you” by Shinedown.
When I asked Kennedi what wedding advice she would share with other couples, she sweetly replied, “Don’t sweat the little things! No one is going to know something is missing except for you. People are there to enjoy the love you two share. Take a moment with your significant other, just the two of you. Take a step back and look around. Embrace the moment, because it goes by way too fast.”
