Did you know that you will probably spend as much time with your photographer on your wedding day as you do with your bridal party? Yup that’s right, were always there tagging along capturing every moment – and that is why your engagement session is so important and is more than just taking photos! If you missed last week’s blog post “10 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer” it mentioned how you are probably going to want to actually like your photographer not just as a professional, but also just as a person! Before we dive into one of the biggest days of your life, I want to ensure that I know as much about the two of you as I can & you feel comfortable with me! So that takes me into my first point…
1 – Engagement sessions provide an opportunity to build a relationship with your photographer!
By the time that you have booked me as your wedding photographer, we will have already started to build a relationship! We will have probably already spoken online, or over a coffee chat either in person or through video chat, but this is just another opportunity to hang out & get to know one another! You will get a feel for how I like to shoot, how I direct you two & you will probably hear me tell a personal embarrassing story or two – because who doesn’t love a good laugh?!
2 – You are able to become comfortable in front of the camera.
We all know that getting your photos taken can be a nerve wracking experience, especially if you have never had them done before! I am typically the one behind the camera, but I can assure you that the times when I am on the other side of it, I feel so awkward! But don’t worry, it’s my job to ensure that you know exactly what to do. How to move, how to pose, and the best one, what to do with your hands (just like Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights hahah). 5 minutes in front of the camera & all your nerves will melt away & you will be enjoying some quality time with your partner! Then once your big day rolls around, you will feel like a total pro!
3 – Engagement sessions are a chance to let loose, get creative, & show your personalities.
Engagement sessions are all about showing who you & your partner are as a couple! I always suggest that we try & implement any activities or props that really show who you are! This might involve including your fur babies, or throwing around a baseball, or maybe going on a hike! Your engagement session is meant to be a fun & enjoyable time with your partner & your photographer.
4 – You can use your images from your session for many different things!
Chances are if you are planning a wedding, you are trying to decide what kind of save the date or invitation to send! Well why the heck not include a picture of your beautiful faces?! Some of the other things that you can use your images for is a guestbook or framed images of y for your reception table, or decor throughout your wedding such as table markers or for your seating chart. With so many different printing companies now a days, your options are totally endless! Throw a search into Pinterest & you will see just how many ways you can use your images on your big day!
All in all engagements photos are a great time to get to know your photographer, become comfortable in front of the camera, let your personalities shine & the ability to use your images in an endless number of ways! I hope that this information was helpful to you & makes the idea of getting pictures a little less nerve wracking & more of a fun opportunity! If you know any brides or grooms, I would love if you could send & share this link with them so that they too can use this information! Thanks for hanging out guys & I hope that you enjoyed this post!
